Itinerary

The group will gather at Malyovitsa hotel at 6 a.m. or in Malyovitsa hut at 7 a.m. By your preference you can spend the night at either of both places.

From the hut starts a comparatively easy path going up to First and Second Terrace, then continuing to Elenino Lake. Shortly after the lake, under the slopes of Orleto we will put on the crampons, harnesses, helmets and will tie to the rope. From here our way goes up to peak Orleto and then continues by the South slopes of peak Malyovitsa. Following a winding line through the rocks will reach our goal - the Northeast ridge of the peak. From here on we will keep close to the sharp edge and thus we will reach first the subpeak and then the main peak itself.

We will descent by the winter tourist path. If people in the group are well prepared and the snow conditions allow it, we will reach Malyovitsa hut in the early afternoon.

Recommendations

Participating in this program can serve as training for more technically difficult winter ascents and longer traverses such as:

- Musala - Trionite Traverse
- Peak Zlia Zub
- Dobrila - Botev Traverse
- The Full Malyovitsa Traverse
- Vihren Peak via Djamdjiev Ridge
- Peak Dvuglav

as well as for summer ascents of peaks with higher altitude e.g.:

- Mont Blanc via Gouter Route
- Grossglokner

Climbing Malyovitsa Peak by the Northeast ridge is recommended as a first step in gaining the necessary experience for participating in the other winter programs, offered by Vertical World Bulgaria, and is an excellent opportunity for testing one’s abilities and personal equipment in the beginning of the active winter season.
