1 Day Hike to Malyovitsa Peak in Rila Mountain

Situated Southwest of Samokov, the Malyovitsa region in Rila mountain is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bulgaria. Because of its alpine relief (deep cirques, sharp pyramid-shaped peaks, rock pinnacles, various valleys, moraines and other typical glacial formations) it is the favourite place of the Bulgarian rock climbers and alpinists and is regarded as the cradle of the Bulgarian alpinism. The famous 200 meter North face of the Maliovitsa peak is striking with its breathtaking appearance.

Itinerary

We will reach Malyovitsa by car and from there will continue on foot. We will reach first the famous Maliovitsa hut (1960 m) after an easy one hour walk. From Maliovitsa hut we have about 2:30 hours walk up to the Maliovitsa peak.

Climbing peak Malyovitsa by its reclining South slope takes a few hours walking, proper shoes and enthusiasm. Regardless how you have reached the peak, the view revealing itself from the top is unforgettable – the picturesque valley of Malyovishka river with its lakes, high vertical rocks, green meadows. The unique nature of Bulgarian alpine flora is represented by - old spruces, alders and white fir woods in the low parts, which give way to typically alpine flora such as dwarf pine, juniper, beautiful mountain flowers, grass and blueberries. One can see birds flying over the rocks and, with some luck, even the Balkan wild goat, running with ease on the steep granite slopes.
